Cropthorne Farm

Oh how we love Cropthorne Farm. What they grow from the ground of their Delta clay is what could be described as sorcery with the quality of their ingredients. According to Chef, Cropthorne’s veggies are “some of the best vegetables [he’s] ever seen in his life.”

Run by Lydia and her husband, Dave, Cropthorne Farm is predominantly operated by women! Cropthorne’s ability to plan is impeccable with the advantage of having a rolling greenhouse. What does this mean? Essentially Cropthorne will start planting in the summer, to then roll these greenhouses onto fields that need heat as the days get colder. Because of this, we’re able to receive quality vegetables that traditionally would be the most inopportune times of the season.

What else do we appreciate about our friends at Cropthorne? Their delivery method is zero-waste by using totes rather than disposable boxes or bags to deliver (their delivery drivers are also the kindest people we might add!). Our relationship with Cropthorne has grown so much over the years that they have even treated us with purchased products from their neighbours for us to experiment with, knowing we’re constantly looking to push the envelope with new local partners.

A Farm Love Story: Acorn’s former chef, Devon, met his wife, Hannah, while she was working at Cropthorne Farm. Their first meeting occurred when Hannah delivered our weekly orders, quickly making Thursdays (delivery day) one of Devon’s favourite days of the week. Fast forward to today - they’re married and living happily ever after!

To put it simply, the folks at Cropthorne are essential to The Acorn.
